Amid ongoing speculation about internal rifts within the Karnataka Congress, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday asserted that his government will complete its full five-year term, describing it as “solid as a rock.” Addressing the media in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah held hands with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, signaling unity within the state leadership.
“Our government will last for five years like a rock. We are together,” said the Chief Minister, brushing aside rumours of discord with Shivakumar.
The remarks came ahead of the visit of Congress general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, the party’s Karnataka in-charge, who is scheduled to meet legislators amid talk of an organisational shake-up.
Siddaramaiah clarified that Surjewala’s visit is aimed at strengthening the party organisation, especially in the run-up to the Zilla and Taluk Panchayat elections.
“He is coming to the state to strengthen the organisation. He will do his job,” the Chief Minister said.
Responding to a comment from Leader of Opposition R Ashoka, who claimed Siddaramaiah might not inaugurate this year’s Dussehra festival, the CM hit back: “What do you think? Will I not inaugurate Dussehra? DK Shivakumar and I are united. The BJP thrives on lies. This government is intact and will stay intact.”
Earlier, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara also dismissed speculation around Surjewala’s visit, saying it was routine for the party high command to step in when minor differences arise and to oversee organisational matters.
“Sometimes the high command intervenes — that’s their job. Surjewala might discuss preparations for upcoming local body elections,” Parameshwara said, adding that his own scheduled meeting with Surjewala was of a personal nature.
Surjewala’s visit follows state minister KN Rajanna’s recent remarks hinting at possible political developments in September, further fueling rumours of a leadership tussle within the Congress ranks. However, the leadership has publicly reaffirmed unity and stability within the government.
